3 Key Pieces to Creating Mindful Reels

The average person watches 25 hours a month on TikTok alone - that’s approximately 50 minutes a day scrolling on the app. Now add on Instagram Reels? People are consuming content all the time and for short spurts of time at that! But what type of video content gets people to trust you and return to your account as a micro-influencer, brand or business? Mindful content.

First, let’s define what mindfulness means. The definition of mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens. When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we're sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.

Let’s admit it, we all need a reminder to be more mindful in our day to day. Today, I am teaching you 3 key pieces to creating mindful reels. Bonus points if you implement all of them into every reel you make.

  1. Number one, SOLVE SOMEONE’S PROBLEM. Whether you’re a micro-influencer or a business, understanding your brand pillars and how they solve a ‘problem’ for someone else is key. Make sure you’re providing VALUE in your reels. Choose 1 pillar/theme per piece of content you create, but bounce between your top 3 brands pillars to give a great overview of you and your brand while serving your audience.

  2. Making gentle eye-contact with your camera makes the viewer feel like you’re talking to them *specifically*. Along with this, you want to refrain from using words like “guys” “you all” “you guys” or anything that implies you’re talking to a crowd of people - yes, your reel is going to reach more than one person, but it’s your job to make sure the viewer feels like you’re talking to HER/HIM. Remember, mindfulness means having a moment-by-moment awareness, gentle eye-contact will keep your audience intrigued, learning about your brand all while they’re in the moment for those 15 seconds.

  3. Be aware. Be aware of your surroundings, your wardrobe choice, the tone of your voice, the music you choose to use, the fonts, the colors and your delivery. This all matters in creating a more mindful experience for the viewer. Depending on your business and your topic, you’re probably going to wear a certain color, maybe you’re going to speak louder or softer depending on the topic.

Bonus Tip: Be confident. You have  half of a second to get the viewers attention. Keep their attention with your aesthetics, but get them to come back because you gave them real value. They’re coming to your corner of genius to learn, to feel better leaving than they did coming, to feel inspired because they trust you. Because you were confident in what you were saying. You know what you’re talking about, you’re already passionate about it, deliver it in a way that has them coming back to you time and time again.
