Maintaining Your Ideal Well Life

Wellness isn't just about what we eat and how much we work out. It's about mental, physical, emotional, sexual, and spiritual well-being and health. Finding the rhythm to create your ideal well life may seem like a never-ending search. We hope we can help you add some ease to this area. Below we’ve broken down the maintenance schedule we like to follow to help live a well-rounded and enjoyable life.

Daily Practices:

-Hydration. Your body needs to hydrate and detox. Start your day with water and try to drink roughly eight glasses a day or more, depending on the climate or activities for the day.
-Sleep.
Figuring out your ideal sleep patterns is helpful. We strive for 6-9 hours of sleep a night
-Herbal Medicine. This can be added to your meals or incorporated into tea. Using supportive herbs can make all the difference in your everyday life. If you’re unsure where to start, we encourage you to work with Botanically Curious to get a personalized herbal plan together.
-Intentional Consumption. This is more about being mindful by switching out your coffee or chocolate to an organic company like Moka Origins or going for a protein that can support you in many ways, like Ayurvedic Protein. Even if you are just needed to update your workout gear, going with a brand that you agree with their mission or personally have a connection with the owner, like we do with Motiv, is a great way to support and consume products that align with you.
-Movement. Taking time to stretch, walk, and flow daily is a game changer. This will help you feel less bloated, more energized, and lift your mood.
-Mindfulness. This could mean unplugging for a few moments and letting your mind wander. Or, you may feel called to take 30 minutes to meditate and journal.
-Sunshine. Take 5-30 minutes a day to walk OUTSIDE. Spoiler, do this in silence; you are getting movement, mindfulness, and sunshine all at once! Plus, getting Vitamin D daily help us sleep better at night.
-Community. Finding people and support that feels good will uplift your day-to-day life. Doing this daily could mean a 5-minute phone call to a friend. Or maybe you feel community at your chiropractor (I know I do) or at yoga.

Weekly Practices:

-Schedule downtime. Often times we let our schedule take over, and we feel rushed to check tasks off our list. It is important to plan for time to reset if you don’t naturally take it. This can look like marking off a few hours to veg on the couch alone or maybe having no obligations at all.
-Chiropractic.
This is such a satisfying addition to everyone’s lifestyle. It’s that extra attention most people don’t realize they need until they are injured. Chiropractic care helps boost your immune system, relax tight muscles, align bones, alleviate pain, and bring you to a parasympathetic (calm) state. If you are in Portland, Maine, we highly recommend Tree of Life Chiropractic.
-Check-in with yourself. Do a complete evaluation of how you feel physically and emotionally, and honor it. Maybe this helps you notice things that aren’t working for you or need extra support. If we take a moment to ask ourselves how we are doing and listen to honest answers, that gives us so much room for growth.
-Meal plan and Prep. Setting aside time to plan stocking, cooking, and surrounding yourself with nourishing and enjoyable food will save you from last-minute hangry moments and quick fixes that make you feel less than great.

Bi-weekly Practices:

-Working with a professional. Maybe you are feeling unsure of how to make adjustments to live your most supported life. This is a great chance to seek support in the community and professionals. Therapy, Health Coaching, and Life Coaching can all be very beneficial. Here are a few of our favorites. Life Coach Susan Tompkins, Somatic Psychotherapist and Mental Health Entrepreneur Mary Cate Hauenstein, and Integrative Health Practitioner Lexi Dunfey are all wonderful and local to Portland contacts.

Monthly Practices;

-Go on an adventure. We love any excuse to get outside into the wilderness and outside of our comfort zones.
-Epsom salt float therapy. Floating in Epsom salt-saturated water reduces inflammation and can help you to reach a deep meditative state. If you are in the Portland area, visit our friends at Float Harder and try it.

-Massage. We’d do this weekly if life would allow it. Massage can bring an amazing calm to your mind while relaxing tension in your body. Visit our team at Health Resonates!

Quarterly Practices;

-Try something new. Maybe you’ve been interested in rock climbing, pottery, going to a social meet-up, or even trying one of Sami’s Buti Yoga classes. Give it a go! Even though this can be nerve-racking, you are working with parts of your brain that aren’t constantly challenged, all while potentially growing the community around you. You may leave with a new favorite hobby or best friend.

-Learn about yourself. Try a workshop or get a reading. Our team just signed up for a group Human Design and Astrology reading with Regine Foster, and ye are so excited to gain this insight for the Health Resonates crew.

Yearly Practices;

-Reflect. Reflection could honestly go in all of these time frames. However, we love a deep dive reflection yearly. This is when you can forecast your monthly and yearly plan and review how your previous year went while making notes of any lessons learned.

-Treat yourself. Book a trip, sign up for a class, or go on a retreat! If you are interested in a staycation, we recommend you contact Experience Maine to learn about some fun activities happening in your area or beautiful places you may want to know about. Or, if you're drawn to wellness-focused events, we’d love to have you at the Fall 2023 Elixir of Life Retreat in Cape Elizabeth, Maine!

-Acupuncture. Did you know that when starting with acupuncture, it is best applied multiple times a week? Committing to a yearly “plan” with acupuncture will help you see significant changes. You and your provider will devise a plan of action, and once you start to see your results, the treatments can be less often as needed, eventually getting you to a monthly or as-needed maintenance plan. Lauren at Rune is an excellent resource for all things acupuncture, and she can assist you in seeing if it may be a good fit for you.

We hope that sharing some of what we find important for a well life, it’ll inspire you to look at your life and make space for things that will better serve you. We’d also love to hear about anything you prioritize that we haven’t considered!
