4 Ways to Embrace Fall with Wellness in Maine

Each season brings a different feeling when you think of the year as a whole. Spring: rebirth, summer: alive and well, winter: reflection. So what would fall be in this cycle of the seasons? The answer: slowing down.

Luckily, living in New England, we experience these four seasons in a way many other parts of the country do not. But today, we’re talking about four ways to embrace the fall with wellness in Maine! We’re talking mindfulness, healthy but delicious recipe ideas, and a new grounding practice to add to your routine. Let’s dive in.

Meditate

Sounds easy enough, right? But the trick this time is to meditate outside. Deep breaths in and powerful sighs out, soaking up the fresh fall air as much as possible. Want to get genuinely grounded with the earth? Do this barefoot. Meditating will take you from the frenetic energy of your day-to-day summer vibes to cool, calm, and collected fall vibes. This season it’s all about staying grounded, mindful and chill.

Eat for the Season

Açaí bowls and green smoothies peaked in summer, but now it’s time to switch from our cold smoothies to warm soups. Fall is the perfect time to start incorporating hot foods into your meal plans, like lentil soups (made from healing herbs from the farmer’s market) or one of our absolute favorite recipes to make: Jenny’s chicken tortilla soup. Warm foods can help smooth digestion as well as absorb nutrients better!

Host Potluck Parties

One of the best parts about the fall is the warm food, the company, and the coziness of it all. Hosting a harvest potluck party is a great way to see the people you love and share delicious bites as we prep for the season ahead! There’s nothing better than good company and good food. Tip: You don’t have to be harvesting your own; fresh ingredients from the farmer’s market or local grocer will do, too! Is there a meal you love to make during this season? A New Mindfulness Practice

As the summer begins to slow down into the more grounded fall energy, it’s only natural to want to slow down with it. We recommend taking long walks, reading, doing a self-care face mask, or even throwing something on to cook in a crock pot all day. For us, this seems like the perfect “Slow Sunday” ritual, but you can also implement these slower activities into your daily activities.

The more we can listen to the earth’s natural cycle, learn to slow down with it, and truly ground ourselves, the more we can hear our thoughts, needs, and wants. It’s almost like Mother Nature knows what she’s doing when we transition from one season to the next, she’s helping us slow down and become more mindful so we, too, can reflect and rebirth.
